FAQ

  • We offer two main programs with dedicated spaces: an Infant/Toddler Program for children aged 6 months to 3 years, and a 3-5 Years Program. While our space is one large area, the infant and toddler room is separated but allows children to still see each other, which is wonderful for siblings.

  • Our philosophy is grounded in the belief that "play is a child's work" and is a valuable form of learning. We offer an active-learning, play-based approach where educators engage with children in co-constructed, inquiry-based learning. Our programs are guided by the revised British Columbia Early Learning Framework and the Early Childhood Educators of B.C. Code of Ethics.

  • We use a personal approach when connecting with parents. We talk with parents each day and we are always available by email and phone

  • Children and adults must wash their hands upon entering the daycare. Children are required to stay home if they exhibit any signs or symptoms of illness or infection, or if they are not well enough to participate in activities. If a child becomes ill while at the centre, parents will be notified immediately to pick them up.

  • We provide a healthy morning and afternoon snack each day, and filtered water is always available. We have a strict allergy-aware policy and require parents to avoid sending any foods containing peanuts. If a child has a life-threatening allergy, an Epipen must be kept at the centre and specific protocol forms must be completed. Please note that we no longer offer a hot lunch program.

  • Yes, we ensure children participate in at least 120 minutes of active play daily, which includes a minimum of 60 minutes of outdoor active play. We play outside rain or shine, so children must wear weather-appropriate clothing that allows them to freely participate. During the summer months, parents must apply sunscreen to their child before arriving.

  • Yes. Acorn Early Education Centre is an approved participant in the government of British Columbia’s Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative, which provides funding to reduce and stabilize monthly fees.

Families can also apply for the Affordable Child Care Benefit to further reduce costs if eligible.
